Biographical Data




Dr. Prashant N. Kumta obtained his Bachelor of Technology 
(B.Tech) in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian 
Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, India in 1984. He then 
pursued his graduate studies in the Department of Materials 
Science and Engineering at the University of Arizona. He 
obtained his Master of Science (M.S.) in Materials Science and 
Engineering in 1987, and continued further and received his 
Ph.D. in 1990 from the University of Arizona. He joined 
Carnegie Mellon in 1990 and is actively involved in building 
the Ceramics Effort. He is a member of The American 
Ceramic Society, Basic Science, Glass and Electronics 
Divisions. His areas of interest include Chemical Synthesis and 
Characterization of Oxide and Non-Oxide Ceramics and 
Glasses for electronic and electrochemical applications. Of 
particular interest is the structure-property correlation in 
materials derived from chemically synthesized precursors.
