He is very happy with his position in Strasbourg, with BASF. It is BASF's attempt to try something really new and have a research lab in an academic institution - It is getting a lot of attention from industry as a high-risk, high-payoff experiment. Dan's girlfriend is a materials scientist as well and is working on the mechanical properties of bulk metallic glasses, as well as reinforcement of silica by SiC nanoparticles.
