Sigma Xi
Professor Porter is Corresponding Secretary of the Carnegie Mellon Chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society. If you would like more information about Sigma Xi, go to www.sigmaxi.org. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else for membership, you should first go to the website to read about qualifications and download a nomination form; then you should contact our membership secretary (Paul Salvador, paul7@andrew.cmu.edu). Most of our membership nominations occur in early Spring.

Professor Porter is a faculty co-advisor of the Carnegie Mellon Student Chapter of MRS (http://www.mrs.org).
MentorNet
Mentornet is a national program that provides e-mentoring by scientific and technical professionals in industry and universities to graduate women studying engineering and related sciences. Space Day
Space Day occurs annually as a National event in K-12 schools to educate and inspire students about space-related science, technology, and phenomena. Prof. Porter the PI was invited back to her hometown in Brewer/Bangor, Maine to participate as a presenter. More details and photos about Space Day – Brewer, 2006.
Engineering Your Future Workshop
This workshop promotes engineering
education for girls in middle school and high school. It is sponsored
by CMU’s Student Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers.
