Yan Cao joined the Materials Science & Engineering department at CMU in March 2004 as research associate. Before then she was a research associate in Materials Science & Engineering department at Case Western Reserve University (Case). She received her Ph.D from Case in May 2003. Currently she is working with two different groups: (1) her work with Prof. Lisa Porter’s group includes insulator-semiconductor interfaces and MOSFET, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and metal-semiconductor ohmic contact interface; (2) her work in Prof. Paul Salvador’s group is to investigate the microstructural features of TiN/TiAlN nanolayer coatings made by the Kennametal PVD and CVD coating process and to relate these features to their physical properties and their performance characteristics.
